Creating Safe Schools from the Legal Perspective

In this prevention conference, Attorney Michael Joyce, who specializes in education law, will address several relevant legal topics for administrators, counselors, teachers, school resource officers and other school personnel.  The conference will explore: bullying and harassment; discipline; the state’s new public records law and its impact on school districts; search and seizure, including cell phones and electronic communications; and the role of school resource officers in schools.

About the speaker:

Michael J. Joyce, Esq. is an attorney with Nuttall, MacAvoy & Joyce, P.C. specializing in general education and special education law in public schools. Joyce previously served as a Civil Rights Attorney for the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), conducting investigations and trainings concerning a wide range of civil rights concerns arising in public schools. Joyce graduated from Boston College Law School and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the Lynch School of Education at Boston College.
