Executive Director's Message
I am honored to be entering my tenth year as Executive Director of Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc. These past ten years have gone by quickly and the partnership has expanded and grown.
Every public non-charter school in the 54 cities and towns of Middlesex County is a member of Middlesex Partnerships for Youth. We also have many charter and private schools, collaboratives and youth service organizations that are members. We partner with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to bring cutting-edge information and high-quality programming to our member districts. MPY provides an important link and collaboration among school districts and law enforcement in Middlesex County.
Middlesex Partnerships for Youth’s mission is “prevention and intervention in matters of health and safety for youth.” As Executive Director, I have the honor and privilege of joining with professionals from school districts, law enforcement and other community safety personnel, community based agencies and parents to promote health and safety for our youth in Middlesex County.
This non-profit organization trains school staff, law enforcement, parents and students on a variety of prevention topics including substance abuse, bullying, internet safety and healthy teen relationships. We endeavor to foster and develop positive characteristics and relationships that bode well for youth making good choices in life.
Since I began my work at MPY, we have seen an uptick in serious mental health issues that our youth are experiencing. The fall and spring Mental Health Series are MPY’s most attended conferences and our school safety conferences have also focused on prevention relating to mental health.
MPY’s student-based initiatives have greatly expanded and now include:
· Poster and Public Service Announcement Projects
· Student Leadership Conferences
o Empowering Girls Conferences
o You Lead Conferences (co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association)
· Public Service Announcement videos geared at teens and featuring local students
o “Said No Drug Dealer Ever” – A PSA on the dangers of opioids
o “Teen Dating A to Generation Z: A Guide to Going Out, Breaking Up and Everything in Between” – a five part series on teen dating topics
· New in-service workshops for students
o Navigating the Cyber World
o OMG TMI N/C: Preventing Teen Sexting
o Red Solo Cups, Weed and Pills – Underage Substance Use
o Teen Dating A to Generation Z: Healthy Relationships
Membership in Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc. offers many benefits for your school staff, parents and students. MPY, a proactive leader in prevention efforts, continues to develop programs and initiatives that benefit our communities and work to keep our youth healthy, safe and prosperous. I am proud to lead this multi-faceted organization.
With my best regards,
