Mental Health Series

Attending to Threats of Violence in Schools & Communities

The creation of safe and supportive environments for all students/children is an important undertaking for educators and law enforcement personnel. Providers who work with students generally know when to contact law enforcement for severe threats and usually have training to attend to very low-level threats.  However, it can be difficult to know how best to respond to students who are concerning but not to the level that law enforcement needs to be involved.  This talk will present a framework for how to understand threat assessment as well best practices and practical guidelines for responding to student threats.

*****The 2017-2018 school year has had weather challenges which necessitated rescheduling some conferences. In order to facilitate awarding Professional Development Points (PDPs), we will be issuing Professional Development Points (PDPs) under the heading of Mental Health and Safety Conferences. Any combination of conferences an individual attends will be used to accumulate PDPs. They will not have to be linked, as previously required.
PDPs certificates will be issued at the end of the school year for all MPY conferences you attended during this school year. PDPs can only be issued to participants who have attended the conferences and submitted the appropriate paperwork. PDP certificates will be emailed to attendees.
