More Bridges to Navigate

As a follow-up to the November 9, 2018 MPY Conference, titled “Building Bridges from the Testing Report to Real-Life Settings: Using Appropriate Academic and Behavioral Strategies,” this conference will focus on how to construct personalized recommendations to provide specific teaching strategies and constructive management tools. Recognizing that all learning happens in relationships, Dr. Moncata will share an integrated psychological assessment approach that can serve school psychologists and educators working with students with salient trauma histories. Attachment, self-regulation & competency models, brain development and neurobiological frames, the concept of state-dependent functioning, thoughtful report writing and educational and psychotherapeutic strategies for this student cohort will be highlighted.

The afternoon session, with Michael Joyce, Esq, will focus on current legal issues relevant to meeting the needs of all learners in our schools. He will provide an overview of applicable federal and state law, including a review of recent BSEA decisions to inform planning and building effective programs within schools. The presentation will also focus on programs designed to meet the twin goals of educating students in the least restrictive environment and building smarter and more defensible programs.

PDPs and CEUs
PDPs are offered for all MPY professional development conferences. PDPs are issued for minimum of 10 hours through attending two conferences. In order to facilitate awarding PDPs, we will be issuing PDPs under the heading of Mental Health and Safety Conferences. Any combination of conferences an individual attends will be used to accumulate PDPs. They will not have to be linked, as previously required.
PDPs certificates will be issued at the end of the school year for all MPY conferences an individual attends during this school year. PDPs can only be issued to participants who have attended the conferences and submitted the appropriate paperwork. PDP certificates will be emailed to attendees.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff, upon approval from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). Approval is granted by the NASW and MaMHCA separately for each conference. Conference participants may request CEUs by filling out the appropriate paperwork at MPY conferences. CEUs are given at Mental Health Series conferences in a minimum of 5 hours. They do not need to be combined with other conferences.
